Evaluating Age-Related Behavioral Phenotypes in the SAMP8 Model
Aging animals to an advanced age for a senescence study can be costly—and may require years of waiting before data are obtained. That’s why the researchers developed the SAM mouse lines that consistently exhibited accelerated senescence.
The well-studied SAM-prone mouse line 8 (SAMP8) has been especially useful in the study of aging-related cognitive decline and sarcopenia. However, with nearly 40 years of maintenance, our neuroscience team conducted a project to characterize the model’s canonical phenotypes.
Learn what our Inotiv research team observed in a recent study of SAMP8 mice vs. SAMR1 controls to evaluate:
- Body weight over time
- Working memory
- Locomotion and anxiety
- Grip strength
- Endurance
- Motor coordination
- Spatial learning and memory
- Startle response
Complete the form to download our research poster. You’ll learn where SAMP8 displayed classically described phenotypes characteristic of the line and where it differed from previous accounts.
