Adenine-Induced CKD_KeyStone Poster CKD

Explore CKD Biomarker Profiles

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) often leads to severe secondary complications, with Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD) presenting a major hurdle in advanced stages. Characterized by mineral and hormone imbalances, bone abnormalities, and vascular calcification, CKD-MBD affects a significant majority of patients with Stage 4 kidney disease. To develop effective interventions, researchers need robust preclinical models that accurately reflect these progressive clinical pathologies.

The rat adenine model provides a reliable, progressive model of CKD. Adenine overload causes direct toxicity, tubular obstruction, and the deposition of 2,8-DHA crystals. This cascade results in targeted disruptions to renal function, driving the development of renal interstitial inflammation and fibrosis. By evaluating this model over a 56-day period, we can temporally characterize the precise mineral and hormone biomarker profiles that mirror human CKD-MBD.

This scientific poster details the physiological, biochemical, and humoral abnormalities induced by a 0.25% adenine diet, offering a clear framework for your renal drug discovery programs.

Poster Highlights

By downloading this poster, you will explore:

  • Temporal perturbations in critical renal injury biomarkers over a 56-day study, including BUN, Plasma Creatinine, and urinary KIM-1 and NGAL excretion.

  • The progressive onset of clinical CKD-MBD markers, such as hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, and hyperparathyroidemia.

  • Detailed profiling of key hormones, highlighting significant elevations in plasma FGF-23 and PTH.

  • Comprehensive histopathological scoring of interstitial fibrosis, tubule dilation, and granulomatous inflammation to validate structural kidney damage.

  • Translational insights to help you optimize study duration and adenine concentrations for evaluating specific therapeutic targets.

By capturing disease features across interconnected renal pathways, this model supports comprehensive phenotyping and generates data that inform preclinical CKD drug discovery, CKD research, and renal biomarker profiling.
