Study shows that diet form can have significant effects on cage microenvironment

Our case study, Study shows that diet form — pelleted or extruded — can have significant effects on the animal cage microenvironment, discusses a recent study which compared the effects of diet form (pelleted vs. extruded) on the microenvironment  of laboratory animals.

Over a period of 14 days, researchers fed three different mouse strains pelleted and extruded diets, which otherwise had the same composition. They assessed intracage ammonia concentrations, feed disappearance, body weight, cage weight, and the degree of cage soilage.

Study authors found significant differences when it came to feed disappearance, cage weights, intracage ammonia, and cage soilage, suggesting that form of diet can impact study results.
