DIO mice are tipping the scales.

The diet-induced obesity (DIO) model exhibits an obese phenotype, glucose intolerance, elevated blood glucose, dyslipidemia, and liver steatosis, but how does the DIO strain differ across vendors?

To help researchers understand how the DIO model simulates real-world metabolic changes, our Metabolism Disease Area Team at Inotiv ran a 16-week study with three commercial DIO models on a high-fat diet vs. a standard (control) diet.

In this study, we:

  • Compared three commercial DIO models
  • Evaluated weight gain and body composition
  • Measured glucose handling and serum biomarkers
